Grey Plover (Pluvialis squataroloa)

Grey Plover are a medium sized wader with a distinctive black, white and grey summer plumage in males. Their winter plumage is much duller with a grey back and pale grey underparts. They have a short, stout black bill.

They are a common passage migrant as birds move between their winter and breeding grounds. Also, a common winter visitor to the UK.

Their preferred habitat are estuaries and muddy shores.

Call is a three-note whistle, tu-loo-ee.

Interesting Fact: Grey Plover are called Black-bellied Plover in North America due to its Summer plumage.

Grey Plover is on the Amber List for Birds of Conservation Concern.
